Restaurant Furniture Buyer's Guide

Investing in your restaurant furniture is vital to maximise the customer satisfaction and overall dining experience of your restaurant to keep your customers coming back for more. The incorrect seating for your venue could ruin the overall ambience and comfort of your customer's visit. Whether you want to prioritise comfort and durability, space optimisation, or enhance the ambience with a personalised touch, it can be overwhelming to decide what is the right restaurant furniture for your venue. Take a look at our Restaurant Furniture Buyer's Guide to explore the different types of restaurant furniture; ranging from what materials, characteristics, dimensions and more. At Style Matters we help you from start to finish to curate the perfect seating structure tailored to your venue to keep your guests satisfied and returning for more.

How many covers are appropriate?

Before you decide on your desired type of restaurant furniture and details, you need to start looking at the capacity and layout of your venue. The capacity will depend on the type of restaurant you run, the space and layout of your restaurant venue, operational efficiency, and the customer experience to ensure your guests have a pleasant dining experience without feeling rushed or uncomfortable.
For example a full-course dining experience will require fewer people per restaurant table in comparison to a fast-paced casual restaurant. Similarly, a fine-dining experience would require a larger space between customers than a cafe for instance. Additionally you need to consider your average party size. Do you mainly cater for couples or larger parties? How many covers can your kitchen cater for to deliver in a timely manner and your staff to deliver exceptional service? Ultimately, the right number of covers is one that maximizes your restaurant’s efficiency and customer satisfaction whilst aligning with your business goals.

Using The Metric Handbook as a guide, we have constructed a diagram following the reccommendations of 1 or 2 square metres per diner:

How much space is needed for restaurant chairs?

Typically, each guest should have a minimum of 24 inches of width to allow comfortable movement between chairs without bumping into each other. The type of restaurant and table shape also impact the seating capacity. For instance, for full-course meals, a 30" x 30" table serves 2 seated guests, whilst a cafe may be ableto seat 4 guests on the same table.

what furniture style is best?

Ranging from restaurant booths, benches, dining chairs, bar stools, banquette seating, you need to choose seating that aligns with your restaurant’s aesthetic, comfort level, and space requirements. If you are prioritising maximum capacity and casual dining, functional and efficient restaurant seating like benches or stools are popular, especially in high-traffic areas where quick turnover is important. Similarly, for cafes and bistros, consider smaller restaurant tables and cozy chairs that facilitate a relaxed environment. To optimise the space without impacting the environment, we reccommend looking at our Fixed Seating to explore the different options of creating custom-made seating designed around your unique space. Using a combination of restaurant seating such as fixed seating and a selection of dining chairs and tables, your customers can also have a preference on the type of chair they would like to sit on to maximise their comfort and experience.

What material is best?

Selecting the best type of material for your venue is crucial. For example, casual dining usually requires versatile and comfortable restaurant chairs and tables that can be easily rearranged to accommodate groups of various sizes. Our Court 5 Dining chairs and Shark Dining chairs are significantly popular within this type of restaurant due to their extra level of comfort and style with the upholstery and padding. Consider using some armchairs, however make sure the chairs still fit underneath the table tops. If your restaurant requires quick turn over, maybe consider using hardwood tables and chairs as they are easy to clean and great longevity. Fine-dining restaurants tend to have luxurious and elegant furniture like our bespoke restaurant chairs and booths that offer privacy and comfort for an upscaled experience. We reccommend taking a look through our Bespoke and Premium collections to see our luxurious seating ranges.

Over the years, Style Matters has been the go-to provider for restaurant furniture in numerous dining and drinking venues, consistently delivering products of the highest calibre.
